TEHRAN (IQNA) – Two students from South Kashmir’s Pulwama and Shopian district bagged the first position on Thursday in a Quranic competition held at Tagore Hall in Srinagar.

Five student teams from across Kashmir participated in the competition and were also asked questions about the emergence and history of Islam.

Saima Yaseen of Pulwama and Sameer Ahmad of Shopian bagged first position, Sadaf Farooq of Anantnag bagged second and Muqadas Riyaz of Srinagar and Shahid Showkat of Budgam bagged the third position.

The program was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) in association with Department of School Education JK.

Hundreds of students from ten districts of Kashmir participated in the competition.

The program was divided into five rounds. In the first four rounds the student teams were given twenty seconds to answer each question and in the last round, only ten seconds were given for each question.

The fourth and fifth position holders were given consolation prizes.

During the program, rare Quranic manuscripts were also put to display in an exhibition as a part of Ramadan special programs.

The manuscripts included a hand written Quranic manuscript of 1300 Hijri, Quranic manuscript written during the reign of Emperor Jehangir, Quranic manuscript written in gold blended ink, correspondences of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), commentary of Holy Quran in local calligraphy and other handwritten commentaries of the Holy Quran.

Another Manuscript written in Tuluth style with Walnut Wood Binding believed to be around 300 years old was also on display and evinced keen interest from the students.
