Istanbul to Host Conference on Academic Theses in Quranic Studies

TEHRAN (IQNA) – An international conference entitled “Academic Theses in Quranic Studies: West and Muslim World in Comparison” is planned to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, in November.

Slated for November 23-26, 2017, it will be organized by the Ilim Yayma Vakfi higher education institute.

The ultimate goal in the conference, according to the institute’s website, is to determine the scientific quality and standards of post-graduate academic studies for Quranic Studies in universities. In the conference, academic theses will be discussed from various perspectives.

Masters and Doctoral theses in the field of Qur'anic Studies in the West and Muslim world will be evaluated at the event.

The main themes of the conference are Quranic Studies’ major themes, methods and theories, approaches and schools of thoughts, role of the identities in the theses in the Quranic studies (ideology, politics, schools, gender, local and immigrant, orientalist...), science policies, academic freedom, advisor-student associations, reasons and motivations in choosing the field of Quranic studies, sustainability/ continuity of theses, impacts of theses, socio-political factors in theses of Quranic Studies (such as September 11, Islamophobia, Euro-Islam, Arab Spring etc.), outsider and insider views to the study of the Quran in Turkey and theses on Ottoman and Turkish literature of Tafsir (Quran interpretation).
