The ceremony was held in the southwestern province by Imam al-Bahyani institute, ikhbari news website reported.

Wafa al-Shuari, an official with the institute, highlighted the importance of organizing such contests and Quranic activities and their role in promotion of the Quranic culture.

The official also called for attaching importance to learning the Quran and acting upon its teachings.

The top five winners of the competition received their awards at the ceremony.

Five charity institutes working to promote Quran learning among women were also honored at the event.

In spite of being under a brutal Saudi aggression, the Muslim people of Yemen have not forsaken Quranic activities.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Over 12,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
