Dictionary of Islamic Terms in Sign Language Unveiled in Iraq

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The first dictionary of Islamic terms in sign language has been unveiled by Imam Hussein (AS) Center affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine in Karbala, Iraq.

According to the website of the Astan, it was unveiled in a ceremony attended by Seyyed Ja’far Al-Mousawi, the custodian of the holy shrine, religious, cultural and academic figures and representatives of charity and humanitarian organizations.

Basim Al-Atwani, the director of the center, in an address to the program said that a number of experts in sign language and those with hearing impairments from different provinces of Iraq cooperated in compiling the dictionary.

Besides translation of Islamic terms, the collection includes information on Quranic issues, supplications, Seerah and Hadiths of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS), Islamic history, jurisprudence, and Islamic beliefs.
