TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Iranian Cultural Center in Ethiopia will hold a Quran teachers training workshop in the African country.

According to the website of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), this was announced in a meeting of Seyed Hassan Heidari, Iran’s cultural attaché in the country, with Sheikh Muhammad Sharif, the head of the Sunni Forum in Adis Ababa.

Heidari said in this meeting that 50 Quran teachers from different parts of Ethiopia will be selected to take part in the workshop.

He said the four-day program is aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of Quran teachers and familiarizing them with the latest methods of teaching Quran recitation, memorization and Tafsir (interpretation).

Sheikh Muhammad Sharif, for his part, thanked the Iranian center for its activities and voiced readiness for cooperation in holding the workshop.

Ethiopia is a country located in the Horn of Africa. It shares borders with Eritrea to the north and northeast, Djibouti and Somalia to the east, Sudan and South Sudan to the west, and Kenya to the south.

Islam is the second-most widely practiced religion in Ethiopia after Christianity. According to the 2007 national census, there are over 25 million Muslims in the country, making up around 34 percent of the total population.
