Prominent Egyptian Qari Commemorated

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A ceremony was held in Egypt’s 6th of October is a city in Giza Governorate to commemorate prominent Quran reciter Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil al-Hasri.

Prominent Egyptian Qari Commemorated 


The ceremony was organized by Hasri Religious and Social Services Society on Friday. 

It was attended by a number of prominent figures, including the Arab country’s Minister of Awqaf.

A museum dedicated to the late Quran master was also inaugurated during the event.

Speaking at the ceremony, Yasmin Hasri, the Qari’s daughter, elaborated on his father’s achievements in Quranic fields.

She noted that when Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil al-Hasri learned about a Zionist plot to distort the Quran, he became the first one to record his recitation of the entire Quran.

He was also the first Egyptian Qari whose Quran recitations were broadcast via loudspeakers in the holy mosques in Mecca and Medina.

Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil al-Hasri was born in September 1917 in Shabra Village near Tanta in Egypt’s Gharbia Governorate.

His father sent him to a Quran school at the age of 8 to learn the Quran.

He became a memorizer of the entire Quran at 8.

He also learned different styles of Quran recitation and became a prominent Qari in Egypt.

Hasri, who was named the country’s Sheikh ul-Qura (top Qari) by Egypt's then president, died in 1980.
