TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran’s headquarters for holding programs marking Arbaeen invited the country’s Quran activists to register for contribution of the Quranic programs planned for Arbaeen.

Seyed Mohammad Mojani, an official with the headquarters, said Quran reciters and Tawasheeh (religious singing) groups willing to take part in the programs can register their names from Friday, September 22.

He said registration will continue for two weeks and the names of those selected to form the Islamic Republic’s Quranic convoy, known as Noor Convoy, in the Arbaeen march will be announced later.

Mojani also noted that as many as 1451 Quranic sessions are scheduled to be organized as part of the 1451 Quranic plan for pilgrims marching toward Karbala, Iraq, during Arbaeen.

The plan features Quranic activities marking the 1451st year since the revelation of the Holy Quran.

It includes recitation, memorization and elaboration on the concepts and teachings of two Surahs of the Holy Quran, Surah al-Mulk and Surah al-Waqea.

Arbaeen, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites. Many of them also visit Imam Ali’s (AS) holy shrine in Najaf.

In the past few years, around 20 million pilgrims from all over the world, including Iran, took part in the mourning ceremonies in the Iraqi holy cities marking Arbaeen.

This year, Arbaeen falls on Thursday, November 9.
