TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Iranian cleric underlined that all faiths have been brought by messengers of God for guiding human beings.

All Religions After One Aim

Addressing the second international conference of world religious leaders, Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Mehdi Taskhiri said there have never been clashes among religions because they are all from God and their aim is encouraging human beings to worship God and stay away from Taghut.

The conference was held in Athens, Greece, on Monday and Tuesday under the title of "religious pluralism and peaceful coexistence in the Middle East”.

Representatives of 53 countries, including Iran, Egypt, the UAE, Hungary, Austria, Palestine, and the Vatican attended the international event.

Elsewhere in his address, Hojat-ol-Islam Taskhiri, who heads the Center for Interreligious Dialogue at the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), said followers of religions have long lived together peacefully.

The clashes and crimes committed in the name of religion today are the result of excessive demands by some major powers who use gullible or opportunist elements to advance their ominous objectives, he said.

Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos also addressed the opening ceremony of the conference, stressing that religious leaders can play a major role in helping end crises in the region.

He added that dialogue is the best means for countering ominous phenomena in societies.

The two-day conference focused on the role of religious leaders in the Middle East and the refugee crisis and the process of merging them in their host communities, in addition to the role of media and religious leaders in promoting cultural and religious pluralism in the region.
