KARACHI (IQNA) – A massive rally was held in the Pakistani city of Karachi on Sunday in protest at the United States’ move to declare the holy city of Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of the Zionist regime.

According to IQNA dispatches, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader Sirajul Haq addressed the demonstrators, saying the rally showed that Muslims are awake and Islamic countries’ rulers must also wake up.

He said US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Quds as the Zionist regime’s capital is not acceptable at all.

The struggle against Israel should continue until the issue of Quds and Palestine is resolved, he added.

Sirajul Haq also urged Muslim countries to recall their ambassadors from the US.

He further underlined world Muslims’ solidarity with the Palestinian nation and hoped for liberation of Quds in the year 2018.

On Dec. 6, Trump announced his decision to recognize Quds as Israel’s capital, sparking angry demonstrations in the occupied Palestinian territories and many Muslim countries.

Rebuffing the move, an extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Istanbul this week declared East Quds to be Palestine’s capital.

Quds remains at the heart of the Israel-Palestine conflict, with Palestinians hoping that the city-- now occupied by Israel -- might eventually serve as the capital of a Palestinian state.
