Mayor Heading to Turkey to Discuss Mosque Construction in Taipei

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Turkish government is interested in making a donation for the construction of a mosque in Taipei City, according to Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je who will visit Turkey in a few weeks to discuss the project.

Ko said during a press conference on Thursday that Turkey has expressed an interest in building a mosque potentially worth millions of dollars in Taipei City. 

The mayor will travel to The Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and Turkey from Jan. 27 to Feb. 6 to learn more about urban renewal, the circular economy, smart cities and shared transportation in major cities around the world, Focus Taiwan reported. 

Another focus of the trip will be discussions with Turkish officials on funding for the mosque project, Ko said.

Islam in Taiwan is a slowly growing religion and represents about 0.3% of the population. There are around 60,000 Muslims in the country.
