Muslims Entitled to Have Mosques in Germany
According to the Iranian Cultural Center in Germany, the Islamik website quoted Olaf Zimmermann, head of the German Cultural Council, as saying that it is a right emanating from the constitution and recognizing it is no favor to Muslims.
He also stressed the importance of religious tolerance in the German society.
He further said there should be dialogue among different groups in Germany about common values in the society.
According to the Zimmermann, peaceful coexistence among religious groups in the country has improved compared to half a century ago, while it still may not be that easy for some Christians to recognize Muslims’ right to live in accordance with their own religious values.
An estimate made in 2015 calculated that there are 4.4 to 4.7 million Muslims in Germany (5.4–5.7% of the population).
Of these, 1.9 million are German citizens (2.4%).
