Al-Azhar to Translate Quran into 30 Languages

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic University plans to publish translations of the Holy Quran into 30 languages.

  

The university’s translation center is working on the plan, Yusuf Amer, the head of the center announced, according to al-Yawm al-Sabi website.

Speaking at a seminar on the “role of al-Azhar in promotion of Islamic culture,” held on the sidelines of Alexandria International Book Fair, Amer added that the rendering of the Quran into English, French and Swahili has already been completed.

As for other plans of the center, he said it is going to translate an interpretation of the Quran by Sheikh Mohamed Mutawali Sha’arawi (1911-1998) into other languages.

It also plans to publish a dictionary of religious terms, he went on to say.

The 14th edition of Alexandria International Book Fair started in the Egyptian port city on March 31 and will run until April 9.
