TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani condemned the US and Israeli moves against Quds (Jerusalem) and the Palestinian nation, stressing that political games could never attach Muslims from Quds.

Speaking at a cabinet session on Wednesday, Rouhani referred to the US move on Monday to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Quds and said Muslims greatly respect Quds and al-Aqsa Mosque and consider them as their first Qibla (direction that should be faced when a Muslim says prayers).

“Hence, this holy land cannot be separated from the 1.5 billion Muslim population of the world.”

He added that the Palestinian people, who have resisted against Israeli occupation for 70 years, will also stand up against such moves until their legitimate rights are restored.

The president further deplored the Israeli massacre of Palestinians in Gaza in recent days and also the silence of certain Arab and Muslim countries over the tragic events.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always defended the rights of the Palestinian nation and will continue on this path,” he said.

“We believe that ultimate victory belongs to the oppressed Palestinians,” he went on to say.

Rouhani also said that international Quds day rallies will be held more grandly in Iran and other countries this year.

The Israeli forces have killed at least 60 Palestinians near the Gaza border during demonstrations against the opening of the US embassy in Quds on Monday and Tuesday.

For six weeks, Palestinians have also been holding Gaza border demonstrations demanding access to family land or homes lost to Israel when it was founded in the 1948 Middle East war.

Palestinian medical officials say 107 Gazans have now been killed since the start of the protests and nearly 11,000 people wounded, about 3,500 of them by live fire.
