Translator of Quran into Uzbek Language Dies

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A translator of the Holy Quran into the Uzbek language died at the age of 60.

 

Anwar Tursunov cooperated in a project for translating the Quran into Uzbek in the 1980s.

The rendering was published in 1992.

According to islamnews website, Tursunov was a prominent literary figure and religious activist in Uzbekistan.

He made a lot of efforts to acquaint the Central Asian country’s people with religious teachings.

Born in 1958, he was a graduate of literature from the State University of Tashkent.

He also served as Friday prayer leader in the country’s capital, Tashkent for years.

Uzbek is a Turkic language that is the sole official language of Uzbekistan. It is spoken by some 32 million native speakers in Uzbekistan and elsewhere in Central Asia.

Islam is the dominant religion in Uzbekistan, where some 80 percent of the population in Muslim.
