TEHRAN (IQNA) – Like previous years, the al-Kawthar Cultural Institute in The Hague, the Netherlands, is holding Quran recitation sessions during mourning ceremonies for the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS).

According to Qaaf news agency, the institute’s Dar-ol-Quran Center organizes the programs with the participation of prominent Quran reciters from the European country.

Titled ‘Ashurayi Recitations’, they began on Saturday, September 15, and will continue until Wednesday, the day of Ashura.

Reza Qorbanpour, Masih Naeemi, Jalil Ahmad Khairpour, Jafar al-Badri and Ali Turaihi are among the Qaris reciting the Quran at the sessions.

Shia Muslims, and others in different parts of the world, hold ceremonies every year in the month of Muharram to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions.

The third Shia Imam (AS) and a small group of his followers and family members were martyred by the tyrant of his time - Yazid Bin Moaweya, in the battle of Karbala on the tenth day of Muharram (known as Ashura) in the year 680 AD.
