TEHRAN (IQNA) – An aid group has restored a mosque destroyed by the militant group Boko Haram in the Central African country of Cameroon.

The Tukey-based Cansuyu Charity and Solidarity Organization restored the mosque in Makari, Cameroon, including new bathrooms, a fountain, garden, well, and an area for ablution or ritual purification.

Ahmet Yorulmaz, a representative from the charity's branch in western Izmir, said their group is doing lasting good in Africa.

"This mosque is very important as it's the only mosque in the region," he said.

The mosque can fit 400 worshippers at a time, said a statement by the group.

Separately, the group dug nine wells in the region to give some 6,000 people access to clean water.

Leaders of the charity and Cameroonian officials joined the mosque inauguration ceremony, where copies of the Holy Quran and food were also distributed to locals.
