DAMASCUS (IQNA) – The executive secretary of the 14th conference of Muslim world scholars said the international event helps to enhance Muslims’ anti-Zionist spirit.

The conference opened in Damascus, Syria, on Wednesday morning with some 500 scholars and religious figures from different countries in attendance.

Hojat-ol-Islam Khodayar Nasseri, the executive secretary, told IQNA that scholars from various Islamic schools of thought are taking part in the gathering.

He said one of the issues to be raised at the conference is the role of colonial powers in creating wars in countries like Iraq and Syria.

The participating scholars will underline the fact that the conflicts in the region fomented by Takfiri terrorist groups like Daesh and al-Nusra Front have nothing to do with Islam as these groups are the stooges of the global arrogance.

The Damascus conference has been jointly organized by the office of the Leader’s representative in Syria, the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST), and the Arab country’s Awqaf and Religious Affairs.

WFPIST Secretary General Ayatollah Mohsen Araki and Syrian Awqaf and Religious Affairs Minister Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed are among the main speakers at the event.
