Brig. Gen Lukman Omoniyi, the 17 Brigade Commander of the Nigeria Army, confirmed their release during a press conference held in katsina on Wednesday.
Omoniyi said the victims were released following an order given to the brigade by the Chief of Army Staff to carry out an immediate rescue operation to free the kidnapped victims, the Nigeria Independent reported.
The commander said the rescued clerics are in good health condition.
This, he noted, is as satisfied by the medical examination conducted on them by the brigade’s Medical Centre.
The Qari and his accompanying scholars were kidnapped by unknown gunmen along Kakumi-Kankara road in Katsina state on their way to Kano from Birnin-Kebbi, Kebbi state after a recitation event.
Sheikh Ahmad Sulaiman in an interview with newsmen, described his experience as very bitter, thanking God for sparing his life in the hands of the kidnappers.
The victims have since been reunited with their respective families.
