TEHRAN (IQNA) – The final stage of the 27th edition of the national Quran memorization competition in Jordan is underway in Amman, the capital.

According to ammonnews.net, Abdulnasir Abulbasal Jordan’s minister of Awqaf, Islamic affairs and holy places said that the main objective of the competition is to promote reading and memorizing the Quran.

He said that 230 Quran activists from different parts of the country compete in the final stage of the Quranic event.

The 27th edition of the competition shows the efforts made by the Jordanian government in promoting Quranic activities and memorization of the verses, he added.

The minister further highlighted some of the measures taken in Quranic fields such as the publication of the Hashemi Mushaf (Jordan’s national Mushaf), launching “Al-Tafseer” website for publication of Quran exegeses online under the supervision of Al-ul-Bayt Institute of Islamic Thought, preparation of a Mushaf in Thulth script and allocating a special place to Qaris at Al-Aqsa mosque.

He appreciated the efforts of the panel of judges who travelled to different parts of the country for holding the preliminary stage of the competition and facilitating the participation of Quran activists in the national event.

According to Hatam Al-Sahimat, director of the ministry’s religious education office, this edition of the contest has been held with 1700 participants who have competed in the categories of memorization of the entire Quran with Tilawah and Tafseer (reading and interpretation), memorization of 25, 20, 15, 10 and 5 Juzes (parts) and memorization of one Juz of Quran.

He added that the final stage, being hosted by the Malik Mosque in Amman, will conclude on April 18.
