TEHRAN (IQNA) – Translations of the Holy Quran in different languages are on display at the Imam Khomeini (RA) Mosalla (prayer hall) on the sidelines of Iran’s 36th International Quran Competition.

The Tarjoman-e Vahy (translation of Revelation) Institute has mounted an exhibition of the translations.

Director of the institute, Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Naqdi, told IQNA that a number of translators who have cooperated with Tarjoma-e Vahy to render the Quran into various languages have also been invited to attend the expo.

He said they include Jafar Gonzales (Spanish), Nazim Zeynalov (Russian), Ebrahim Savada (Japanese), and Suleiman Baijsi (Chinese).

Hojat-ol-Islam Naqdi added that the 148 translations so far rendered in the world, including those published by the institute in languages such as Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Swahili, Japanese, Hindi and Swahili, are on display in a 600 square meter area at the Mosalla.

As for the institute’s plans for the current Iranian year (began on March 21), he said several translations of the Quran are being prepared for publication, including one into the Sindhi language.

According to the cleric, the institute is also planning for translating and compiling an exegesis of the Quran in these languages as well as in English.

The project for compiling such an interpretation has gotten underway, he said, adding that it would benefit a lot of people given that more than 2 billion people speak the languages.

Tarjoman-e Vahy is an institute in the Islamic Republic of Iran specializing in presenting translations of the Holy Quran into world languages.

Iran’s 36th International Quran Competition got underway in Tehran on Wednesday and will conclude on Sunday.
