TEHRAN (IQNA) – Some 600 Quran recitation sessions will be held in the country during the holy month of Ramadan, an Iranian official said.

Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Moghanni, head of the Quranic Affairs Center of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, told IQNA that prominent Qaris will take part in the Quranic programs.

He added that unlike previous years, no foreign Qaris have been invited to recite Quran in the programs.

Apart from these recitation sessions, he said, there will also be programs in mosques and holy sites across the country for choral recitation of one Juz of the Quran in every day of the holy month.

In Iran, Tuesday will be the first day of Ramadan.

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. It is a period of prayer, fasting, charity giving and self–accountability for Muslims around the world.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast (abstain from foods and drinks) from sunrise to sunset.

They also devote a considerable amount of time during this month to reading and contemplating the Quran.
