Brigadier General Farzad Esmaeili made the remark during a visit to the base's Quran classes on Wednesday, adding that the Takfiris have caused clashes and chaos in some countries because of their lack of profound and accurate understanding of the Quran, Fars news agency reported.
"We ought to benefit from the Quran to uphold the true Islam not the 'American Islam' that the Takfiris (extremists) are advocating."
His comments come as Takfiri militants of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) continue to commit atrocities in parts of Iraq in the name of Islam.
On June 10, the ISIL Takfiri militants gained control of Mosul, the capital of Iraq’s Nineveh Province, which was followed by the fall of Tikrit, located 140 kilometers (87 miles) northwest of Baghdad.
Over the past days, Iraqi armed forces have been engaged in fierce clashes with the ISIL terrorists, who have overrun parts of Iraq and announced a so-called Islamic caliphate.
Senior Muslim clerics have condemned the ISIL atrocities, including mass executions and rape.
