Speaking at an administrative session in Mashhad, Khorasan Razavi province, on Friday, Mohammad Sharif Malekzadeh noted that the holy mausoleum had been nationally registered in 1931, but no steps had been taken to include it in the international heritage list.
He added that it is one of the major plans of the organization to register the holy shrine on the list of The World List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Every year, millions of pilgrims from Iran and other countries visit the mausoleum of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad, northeast of Iran.
Malekzadeh said that several Ashura-related rituals held in Khorasan Razavi province, including Alam-Gardani, Taziyeh and Nakhl-Gardani are also to be registered nationally and internationally.
