Vienna Islamic Center Holds Conference on Ashura
According to the center’s website, the conference will be held on Sunday, November 30.
There will be a book fair, speeches and religious ceremonies on the sideline of the conference.
Ashrua is the day when Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala against the second Umayyad caliph, Yazid I, in 680 A.D.
Imam Hussein (AS) was killed after he refused to pledge allegiance to the tyrant ruler.
Every year, mourning services are held worldwide in the lunar months of Muharram and Safar to commemorate the Imam and his companions.
The annual Muharram ceremonies, which have been performed for many centuries, symbolize the eternal and unwavering stance of truth against falsehood and humanity’s struggle against injustice, tyranny, and oppression, the cause for which Imam Hussein (AS) was martyred.
