Piece of Kaaba’s Kiswa on Display in Karbala
According to the website of Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine, ‘Alaa Ahmad Ziyauddin, director of the museum said that the precious piece has been gifted to the museum by one of Ahl-ul-Bayt’s (AS) devotees.
This part of the veil was covering the golden door of Kaaba at the Grand Mosque, he added.
The veil, which is 2m wide and 3m long, has been designed with embroideries of Quranic verses containing gold and silver threads.
Verses from Surah Baqara and Surah An’aam have been selected for the embroidered calligraphic designs on the veil.
The rare handmade piece has been installed on a 3 x 1.75 meter wall at the museum.
Every year, the old Kiswa is removed, on the 9th day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, the day pilgrims leave for the plains of Mount Arafat during the Hajj. It is cut into small pieces, and given to certain individuals, visiting foreign Muslim dignitaries and organizations.
