TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Tilawa (recitation) section of Malaysia’s international Quran contest began on Tuesday afternoon, with Qaris from several countries demonstrating their Quranic skills.

Ibrahim Shifa bin Musa Salim from Maldives was the first Qari to perform his recitation in the contest.

He recited verses from Surah Ibrahim (AS), according to IQNA dispatches.

Representatives of Pakistan, Morocco, Canada, Turkey, and Hong Kong also went on the stage for recitation on the first night.

In the women’s section, it was the Moroccan, Cambodian, Indonesian, and Vietnamese representatives to prove their Quranic skills to the panel of judges.

Iran is represented in the recitation category of the contest by Seyed Mostafa Hosseini, whose turn for recitation will come on Wednesday.

This 58th edition of Malaysoa’s Quran contest, officially named "International Al Quran Recital and Memorisation Assembly”, kicked off in Kuala Lumpur on Monday night.

Some 120 Quran reciters and memorizers from 69 countries are attending the competition.
