Saudi Economic Infrastructures Yemenis’ Next Target: Official
Yemen’s Ansarullah movement and their allies in the Yemeni army deployed as many as 10 drones to bomb Abqaiq and Khurais oil facilities run by the Saudi state-owned oil company Aramco before dawn Saturday.
The unprecedented attack knocked out more than half of Saudi crude output, or five percent of global supply.
The attacks came in retaliation for the Saudi-led aggression on Yemen.
Saudi Arabia and its allies launched the devastating campaign against Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back to power and crushing the Houthi Ansarullah movement.
The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the war has claimed more than 91,000 lives over the past four and a half years.
The war has also taken a heavy toll on the country’s infrastructure, destroying hospitals, schools, and factories. The UN says over 24 million Yemenis are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger.
Speaking to IQNA, Abdullah Salam al-Hakimi, former Yemeni minister of national dialogue and current senior official at the foreign ministry said the Saudi aggression must stop, otherwise Yemeni attacks would continue and expand.
He said the Yemenis will focus on Saudi Arabia’s economic infrastructures so as to deprive the aggressors of the financial sources that help them continue the war and crimes against the Yemeni people.
“We have no choice but resistance and will continue sticking to it. We do it with the aim of achieving peace and forcing the invading and criminal Saudi coalition to stop its aggression, crimes and blockade.”
Al-Hakimi further highlighted Yemen’s progresses in the defense industry, especially in the field of production of advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and ballistic missiles and noted that the achievements have been made despite the sanctions and blockade on Yemen.
He said the Yemeni nation has been inspired by the Islamic Republic of Iran on this path.
