Addressing a ceremony held to announced winners of the 5th Arbaeen International Award, Jahangiri noted that the Arbaeen marches are annually held to preserve the message of Ashura, which revives human values and inspires freedom movements.

He added that Arbaeen gives the lesson of resistance to everyone, not just Shia Muslims.

Jahangiri also hailed the good interaction between Tehran and Baghdad in preparing the ground for the Arbaeen pilgrimage, saying the two governments do a great job in this area every year.

He further thanked the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) for holding the Arabeen International Award.

Winners of the three categories of the contest, namely photos, films and travelogues, were awarded at the ceremony, held in Tehran on Tuesday.

Works were submitted to the secretariat of the competition by individuals from 19 countries, including Iran, Bahrain, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Iraq, Oman, Myanmar and India and the winners were from 11 countries.

ICRO has organized the Arabeen International Award since 2014 with the aim of reflecting the manifestations of this international religious event to the world.

Wherever words cannot convey the greatness of a message, the best communication medium would be the language of art. That is why ICRO decided to hold the international award annually in the categories of photos, videos and travelogues, with the aim of spreading the message of Arbaeen and Ashura.

Arbaeen, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to the Iraqi city of Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

Arbaeen falls on October 19 this year.
