Translations of Book on Arbaeen Pilgrimage to Be Unveiled in Tehran
Haddad Adel, an Iranian philosopher, politician and former Parliament speaker, wrote the book “I Visited the Desert, It Had Rained Love” after he came across Arbaeen pilgrims during a trip to the holy city of Najaf, Iraq, in 2017.
The book is named after a phrase from The Tadhkirat-ul-Awliya, a hagiographic collection of Muslim saints and mystics, written by renowned Iranian poet Attar of Nishapur (1145 – 1221).
In this book, Haddad Adel narrates the events that occurred during the Arbaeen march on the road between Najaf and Karbala.
He also gives an analysis of the great spiritual, political, religious and social event.
“The Arbaeen march is not a journey in geography but one in history and that not to the past but to the future,” part of the book reads, according to ISNA.
Arbaeen, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS).
Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.
Arbaeen falls on October 19 this year.
