TEHRAN (IQNA) – Like previous years, there were various Quranic programs held for millions of Arbaeen pilgrims in Iraq.

The Dar-ol-Quran centers of the holy shrines in Karbala and Najaf, the Popular Mobalization Units (Hashd al-Shaabi), and the Nur al-Zahara (SA) Quran Memorization, Recitation and Interpretation Center, were among the organizations and centers holding the programs.

Iran also sent a Quranic convoy, known as the Noor Convoy, comprising top Quran reciters and Tawasheeh (religious singing) groups, to Iraq during the Arabeen season.

According to Iran’s Consul-General in Karbala Mir Masoud Hosseinian, the programs included Quran recitation sessions, Khatm Quran (reading the entire Holy Book), and Quran contests.

He noted that the Iranian Consulate General also cooperated in holding the Quranic programs.

Arbaeen comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias, including many Iranians, flock to the Iraqi city of Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

Arbaeen fell on Saturday, October 19, this year.
