TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 37th edition of Iran’s International Holy Quran Competition will be held in the northeastern holy city of Mashhad, an official said.

Karim Dolati, head of the National Quran Competitions Foundation, told IQNA that the holy mausoleum of Imam Reza (AS) will host the event.

He said the Astan Quds Razavi (custodianship of the holy shrine) and the governor’s office of Khorasan Razavi province will use all their capacities to best organize the contest.

In the 2020 edition of the international Quranic event, a new category, namely Tarteel recitation of the Quran, will be added to the competition’s categories, Dolati further said.

He also noted that like the previous edition, there will be a preliminary qualification round so that only those who have the minimum qualification criteria can attend the contest.

Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization annually organizes the competition with the participation of Quran activists from various countries.

Quran reciters and memorizers from over 80 countries took part in the 36th edition.

It was held in Tehran in April 2019.
