The flags and pictures were laid on the ground in front of the city’s grand mosque and the worshippers trampled on them before and after prayers.
The move was in condemnation of the US assassination of Iranian top commander General Qassem Soleimani and deputy commander of the Iraqi Hashd al-Shaabi (PMU) Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
General Soleimani, al-Muhandis, and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of January 3.
