TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 3rd edition of a Quran memorization and recitation competition for seminary students was held in Iraq last week.

The National Center of Quranic Sciences affiliated to the Iraqi Shia Awqaf (endowments) Office in the holy city of Najaf organized the competition in cooperation with the Holy Quran Center of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Ali’s (AS) holy shrine.

The competition concluded on January 26 and the winners were announced by Ali Al-Sattar Al-Khafaji, head of the competition’s panel of judges.

Marwan Awad Jihad, Riyadh Mohsin, and Ali Qasim won the first to the third ranks in memorization category.

The tree winners in recitation category were Mohammad Zaleef, Ahmad Abbas Rahima and Wasam Abdulkarim hajin.

Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.

There has been a growing trend of Quranic programs such as competitions, recitation sessions and educational programs held in the country in recent years.
