Egypt Not to Call Off Int’l Quran Contest

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egypt will go ahead with its plans to hold the country’s international Quran competition despite concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus.

 

Adil al-Ghazban, the governor of Port Said, said the northeastern Governorate of Egypt will host the competition next week, youm7 website reported.

He said that representatives from 40 countries will take part in the contest.

The official added that the governorate has mobilized all its capacities to best host the international event.

The 3rd international Quran and Ibtihal competition of Egypt is slated to kick off on Thursday.

This is while the World Health Organization (WHO) has reported the first case of coronavirus infection in the Arab country.

The virus has infected more than 80,000 people around the world, including over 77,000 in China. More than 2,600 people have died in China’s central Hubei province alone.

The outbreak has had a major impact on global sporting, cultural, religious and political events, with a host of events canceled or postponed.
