TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 28th edition of the Tehran International Quran Exhibition is expected to be postponed amid concerns over the novel coronavirus.

Morteza Khedmatkar told IQNA that given postponement of the Tehran International Book Fair, the Quran expo is also likely to be rescheduled.

The Imam Khomeini (RA) Mosalla (prayer hall) will host both international events.

A decision about the postponement of the Quran expo is expected to be made in a meeting of its managers later this week.

Khedmatkar said the organizers’ preference is that the exhibition will be held during the holy month of Ramadan (late April-May).

The novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19, has infected more than 80,000 people around the world, including over 77,000 in China. More than 2,600 people have died in China’s central Hubei province alone.

The outbreak has had a major impact on global sporting, cultural, religious and political events, with a host of events canceled or postponed.

The 28th Tehran International Quran Exhibition is slated for May 2 if there is no change in the schedule.

The expo is annually organized by the Iranian Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in the holy month of Ramadan.

It is aimed at promoting Quranic concepts and developing Quranic activities.

The exhibition showcases the latest Quranic achievements in the country as well as a variety of products dedicated to the promotion of the Holy Book.
