Mass Prayers Suspended in Iran’s Mosques
The center made the announcement on Wednesday, adding that no other programs and ceremonies should be held in mosques, either.
However, Adhan will be recited and mosques will remain open for those who want to say their prayers Furada (individually).
The measure is aimed at preventing further spread of the novel coronavirus.
Classified a pandemic by the World Health Organization, the new virus, a respiratory disease known as COVID-19, emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in Hubei Province late last year.
It has killed more than 7,000 people globally, and infected nearly 180,000 others, according to the WHO.
According to Iran’s Health Ministry, the number of people who have died from the coronavirus in the country has risen to 988 and the total number of confirmed cases to 16, 169.
At least 5,000 patients in Iran have recovered from the disease so far.
