TEHRAN (IQNA) – The second round of a Quran competition broadcast live from the holy city of Najaf, Iraq, started earlier this week.

The TV contest has been organized by the Holy Quran Center of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Ali (AS) holy shrine.

According to the Astan’s website, 45 contenders competed in the first round and 1 made it to the second stage.

Out of these, 5 contestants will go to the final round to compete for the top three ranks.

Ammar Talib al-Mousawi, the secretary of the competition, said it has been organized on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.

He said viewers can watch it on the Astan’s satellite TV every day at 12 AM local time.

A number of top Iraqi Quran experts are members of the competition’s panel of judges.

Every year, many Quran contests are organized all over the world in Ramadan, known as the month of Quran.
