Iran Int’l Quran Contest Not to Go Online
In a meeting of the committee on Sunday, different scenarios regarding the 37th edition of the annual Quranic event.
One of the proposals discussed at the gathering was holding the competition online but it was accepted by the committee.
The 37th International Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran had been scheduled to be held on April 10-14 but was delayed given the concerns about spread of COVID-19.
Officials have suggested that this year’s contest should be cancelled amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization annually organizes the international Quranic event with the participation of Quran activists from various countries.
Quran reciters and memorizers from over 80 countries took part in the 36th edition, held in Tehran in April 2019.
The coronavirus outbreak that originated in Wuhan, China, has infected over 9 million people around the world and killed more than 470,000.
The outbreak has had a major impact on global sporting, cultural, religious and political events, with a host of events canceled or postponed.
