Mosques in Turkmenistan to Remain Closed until Oct 1

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Mosques will remain closed in Turkmenistan until October 1, the Mufti's Office said.

Mosques have been closed in the Central Asian country since July 13 to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The decision has been taken based on the recommendations of the emergency commission for prevention of diseases of August 26, the office told Turkmenportal.

Turkmenistan has not registered any coronavirus cases yet.

Classified a pandemic by the World Health Organization, the new virus, a respiratory disease known as COVID-19, emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in Hubei Province late last year.

It has infected more than 26.1 million people and killed over 867,000 globally.
