TEHRAN (IQNA) – Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, the chief imam of Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center, called for fair distribution of coronavirus vaccines.

In a post on his Facebook account, the cleric hailed the efforts of the scientists and researchers striving to make a vaccine for COVID-19, RT Arabic reported.

He called them heroes whom God has blessed to save the lives of people in the face of a pandemic that has killed more than 1 million individuals so far and keeps threatening the world.

El-Tayeb added that once a vaccine is made, it should be fairly distributed.

The coronavirus vaccine should be made available to all, including the needy and refugees, he said.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday expressed hope that a vaccine will be available for COVID-19 in the first half of next year.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 55 million and the death toll has exceeded 1,330,000.
