TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Iraqi lawmaker called on the country’s government to provide the parliament with the outcome of investigations into US assassinations at Baghdad Airport in January.

Ahmed al-Kanani said the government must avoid keeping the results secret, Mawazin News reported.

He added that the Baghdad government had been supposed to inform the parliament of the results months before but has yet to do it.

The case of the US assassination of prominent Iranian and Iraqi commanders in Baghdad is very important, he said, warning the government against any more delays in disclosing the outcome.

Iraqi lawmakers unanimously approved a bill on January 5, demanding the withdrawal of all foreign military forces led by the United States from the country following the assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, along with Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), and their companions in a US airstrike authorized by President Donald Trump near Baghdad International Airport two days earlier.

In July, Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council said the country regarded the US assassination of General Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis on its soil as a criminal act.

The Council said it had coordinated its legal procedure with the Iranian Judiciary and the two countries would file a joint lawsuit against the US.
