TEHRAN (IQNA) – Mauritania’s Islamic Affairs Ministry said a campaign of playing Quran recitation in the country’s mosques is underway.

The ministry issued a directive calling on imams of all mosques to play Quran recitation amid the coronavirus outbreak, Egypt Today reported.

It is aimed at helping people spiritually during the tough days of the pandemic.

“We will put the coronavirus behind us with the help of the Quran” is the motto of the campaign.

The African country is facing a second wave of the COVID-19 and in order to curb the spread of the disease, schools have been closed for two weeks.

Nearly 11,000 coronavirus cases have been identified and 222 people have died of the disease in Mauritania so far.

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in the Maghreb region of western North Africa.

The country’s population is estimated to be about 4 million and virtually all Mauritanians are Muslims.
