TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) strongly condemned a deadly terrorist attack targeting school students in the Afghan capital of Kabul.

In a statement on Monday, the IRGC said the grave crime was a plot hatched by the US to revive Takfiri terrorism and bring war and bloodshed to Afghanistan again.

Describing the bombing as a great tragedy for Afghanistan’s people, the statement said the White House is to blame more than others because of taking Daesh terrorists from Syria and Iraq to Afghanistan.

The IRGC expressed sympathy with the noble people of Afghanistan and, especially the families of martyrs of the attack, and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the incident.

The death toll in a bomb attack targeting schoolgirls in Kabul on Saturday has risen to 85, Danish Hedayat, head of media for the second vice president of Afghanistan, said on Monday.

Another 147 wounded people were wounded in the attack in the Dasht-e-Barchi neighborhood, Hedayat said.

The car bomb was detonated in front of the Sayed Al-Shuhada school, and two more bombs exploded when students rushed out in panic.

The area is home to a large community of Shias from the Hazara ethnic minority, which has been targeted in the past by the Daesh terrorist group.

There has been no official claim of responsibility yet. The Taliban has denied being behind the Saturday evening attack.

Officials said most of those killed were schoolgirls. Some families were still searching hospitals for their children on Sunday.
