TEHRAN (IQNA) – Floods that hit Malaysia last week has caused devastating damage to a Quran learning center in Rembau, Negri Sembilan.

Mohd Sofee Mustafa, who set up the Geng Ngaji centre in Kampung Astana Raja, described the flood in the area as the most devastating in decades. Also destroyed were his tilapia pond, workshop and chicken pens.

“These activities are not only for me to cover the costs of the teaching centre, but also a project to help the locals economically,” he told mStar, The Star’s Malay-language portal.

He said he and his wife had set up the centre as a way to give back to the community after they came back from Jordan and Egypt.

He said his tilapia escaped in the floodwaters, while more than 200 chickens had died.

“Not even the sacks containing chickenfeed made it, it is as if we suffered a total loss,” he added.

Sofee said he was thankful that youths in the village had come to help, as he salvages the best he can.
