Moroccans Call for Return of Qurans to Mosques

TEHRAN (IQNA) – People in Morocco have called on the country’s Awqaf and Islamic affairs ministry to return copies of the Quran to mosques in the country.

The copies have been removed from shelves in houses of worship as part of measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Now Moroccan activists have launched a campaign on Facebook for the return of Qurans to empty shelves in mosques, hespress.com website reported.

Abdul Samad Mukhlis, an activist, said mosques were reopened a few months ago after a decline in COVID-19 cases but authorities have not allowed the return of Qurans.

He said worshippers now have to take their own copies to mosques or rely on their smartphones.

Mukhils added that coronavirus preventive measures should not cause difficulties for worshippers who want to read the Quran at mosques.

The Awqaf and Islamic affairs ministry should reconsider its decision in this regard, he went on to say.

Abdul Aali al-Rami, another activist, suggested that Quran copies should return to shelves and be sterilized frequently to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
