Itikaf

Registration will be online, the public relations office of the Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine announced.

Since the number of applicants is expected to be larger than the capacity of the mausoleum like in previous years, there will be a draw to select the participants in the spiritual ritual, it said.

In order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the Itikaf ritual will be organized in full compliance with the health protocols, the office added.

Itikaf, in the Islamic faith, is a particularly commended pious practice consisting of a period of retreat in a mosque, for a certain number of days in accordance with the believer's own wish.

Those taking part in the spiritual ritual sit in mosques and fast and pray the almighty God during the three days of Itikaf (usually on the 13th, 14th and 15th of the lunar Hijri month of Rajab).
