Saudi Arabia’s Int’l Quran Contest Slated for September

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The next edition of Saudi Arabia’s international Quran competition is scheduled to be held in September.

The country’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance will organize the event with the participation of representatives of various Muslim and Arab nations as well as other countries, Sayidaty.net website reported.

This year’s competition, which will be the 42nd edition, will have five categories.

Winners will receive cash prizes of up to 2.7 million Saudi riyals.  

Abdullatif Al-Sheikh, the Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, said the contest is aimed at encouraging Muslims around the world to learn and memorize the Quran and enhancing Muslims’ connection with the Holy Book.

He said the cash prizes will be higher this year, compared to previous editions.

He also noted that memorization of the entire Quran with mastery over the seven types of Qira’at (recitation) is a new category included in the 42nd edition.

Invitations have been sent to related organizations in different countries to introduce their representatives, he went on to say.
