In recent months, concerns have grown worldwide about food insecurity, with the price of wheat and other cereals increasing more than 60 percent in a month.

Egypt, which is among the major consumers of wheat in the world, has been affected by the crisis and is seeking ways to address the situation.

Addressing a ceremony to inaugurate an agriculture project on Saturday, el-Sisi referred to the issue and said Egypt is facing challenges after the rise in the prices of cereals as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war, alquds.co.uk website reported.

He cited verse 47 of Surah Yusuf, “He (Joseph) replied: ‘You shall sow for seven years as is your way. Leave in the ear (of corn) you reap, except a little which you eat,” and said called for learning lessons from it to find ways to tackle the food crisis and boost food security for the country.

Egypt needs 23 million tons of wheat annually. It produces some 9 million tons and needs to import the rest.
