TEHRAN (IQNA) – Promoting the Quran and Quranic values are among the major aims of dispatching Iran’s Noor (light) Convoy to Hajj, an official said.

Seyed Ali Sarabi

Speaking at a briefing for the members of the convoy on Tuesday, Seyed Ali Sarabi, secretary of the Committee for Inviting and Dispatching Quran Reciters, said the convoy is the representative of Iran’s Quranic community and its elites that should support Iranian Hajj pilgrims spiritually.

He described Hajj as an honor for anyone who can go on the trip and an opportunity for spiritual growth and self-improvement.

Sarabi also appreciated the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization for supporting the convoy.

The briefing was attended by a number of other officials, including Hamid Majidimehr, the head of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization’s Quranic Center.

The Committee for Inviting and Dispatching Quran Reciters named the members of Iran’s Noor Quranic Convoy on May 15.

Comprising selected Quran reciters, memorizers and Tawasheeh groups, the convoy is sent to Saudi Arabia during Hajj annually to perform Quranic programs in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

Every year millions of Muslims from around the world gather in the Mecca for the annual Hajj.

This year, foreign pilgrims will attend Hajj for the first time after two years, after they were barred from traveling to Saudi Arabia due to the coronavirus outbreak.
