TEHRAN (IQNA) – A senior member of Hezbollah resistance movement said any move by Saudi Arabia to take part in an alliance with the Israeli regime would be a stab in the back of the Muslim Ummah.

Sheikh Nabil Qaouk

Speaking at a ceremony in southern Lebanon on Sunday, Sheikh Nabil Qaouk referred to reports about plans by the Saudis to move toward reconciliation with the Israeli regime and said such moves would be tantamount treason, Al-Ahed News reported.

He said it would be a stab in the back of Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and the entire Muslim Ummah.

Sheikh Qaouk also shrugged off the Zionist regime’s threats against Lebanon as being for domestic consumption, stressing that such threats are nothing given the power of Lebanon which is based on the relation between the country’s army, nation and resistance forces.

Back on May 30, Israeli foreign minister Yair Lapid said the Tel Aviv regime is coordinating with the United States and Persian Gulf nations on a process to normalize and establish full diplomatic ties with Saudi Arabia.

“We believe that it is possible to have a normalization process with Saudi Arabia. It’s in our interest,” Lapid said.

“We’ve already said that this is the next step after the [so-called] Abraham Accords to talk about a long and careful process,” he added, referring to the 2020 normalization deals that Israel reached with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan under former US president Donald Trump.
